  • The work of a camp counselor (or "vozhatyi" in Russian) is not only a responsible but also a highly important role focused on working with children or teenagers in camps, on themed shifts, or in educational programs. The main duties of a counselor include:

    1. Organizing and conducting activities: The counselor is responsible for creating a program of leisure, entertainment, and educational activities for the children. This could involve sports games, workshops, quests, competitions, themed parties, etc.

    2. Ensuring safety: One of the primary responsibilities of the counselor is to monitor the safety of the camp participants. This includes both physical safety and psychological well-being.

    3. Communication and support: Counselors often become not only mentors but also friends to the children. It is important to listen, provide support, engage them in group activities, and help solve any issues that arise.

    4. Creating a comfortable atmosphere: A counselor must be able to create a positive environment for the children, helping them to open up, supporting their initiatives, and respecting their individuality.

    5. Supervision of the daily schedule: Counselors ensure the adherence to the daily routine, which includes wake-up time, meals, rest periods, activities, and bedtime.

    6. Teamwork: Often, several counselors work together at the camp, requiring good coordination of activities, mutual support, and collaboration with the camp administration.

The work of a counselor requires qualities such as responsibility, organizational skills, communication abilities, the ability to find a common language with children and teenagers, stress resilience, and creativity. Counselors must be able to quickly adapt to changes and be ready to handle unexpected situations.
